This consists of 38 plates contained in a book with black-background pages, filled with circles of different colors but the same brightness.
They feature numbers, paths to be followed with a pencil for children or illiterate individuals, and confusion plates, where only those with altered color vision can see numbers.
These plates are useful for diagnosing congenital color vision defects, especially for the red/green axis.
They should be read at a reading distance of 30-40 cm, with near correction for some subjects, and under adequate lighting.
The test can be performed both monocularly and binocularly.

The examination of the chromatic sense occurs through the discrimination of colors different from the background and the 10a signs.
Ishihara plates are used for the diagnosis of dyschromatopsia, in optic neuropathies, and in congenital or acquired maculopathies.

10a: the different colors are located on the same confusion line.
